A WATERSHED MOMENT: PRIVATE FLOOD INSURANCE IS HERE

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has historically been the main vehicle for personal flood insurance in the United States. Most homeowners policies do not cover flood claims, and the vast majority of homeowners are not covered by flood insurance. Until recently, the prevailing wisdom in the insurance industry has been that flood is an uninsurable peril.  In just the past few years, a number of forces are aligning to make flood insurance much more attractive to the private market.
