Whitmer threatens to veto Senate-passed auto insurance overhaul

The Republican-controlled Michigan Senate's passage Tuesday of a no-fault auto insurance bill that would let motorists opt out of unlimited medical coverage for auto injuries but not guarantee rate reductions in premiums drew an immediate veto threat from Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
The amended Senate Bill 1 would create a menu of personal injury protection for motorists to purchase — or let them drive without medical coverage on their auto insurance plan if their personal health insurance covers auto accident injuries.
